Default 2 dead after eating mushrooms in northern Vietnam
Two people died and six others are being treated at hospital after eating poisonous mushrooms in the northwestern province of Lai Chau, Vietnam News Agency has reported.

The eight, all ethnic Kho Mu residents of Me Village in Than Uyen District, were members of two related families.

Dr Do Van Giang, director of the Lai Chau Province General Hospital, said Lo Van Chung, a 40-year-old man, died Sunday morning.

Two days earlier Lo Thi Thinh, a 15-year-old girl who was three months pregnant, had died after being rushed to the hospital.

The two along with the others had eaten the mushrooms the previous Sunday. By Friday they were all admitted to hospital with signs of fatigue, headache, swollen bellies, and yellow skin tone.

They all suffered from mushroom poisoning, doctors said. The surviving six are being treated.

Lo Thi Hoa, 14, said she had picked some white mushrooms while tending goats in a forest to make soup. Dr Giang said the mushrooms were yet to be identified.
