Forest rangers in the central province of Thanh Hoa said they caught a man illegally transporting 41 kilograms of pangolins Wednesday. According to the Thanh Hoa Forest Rangers’ Agency, they found the nocturnal animals in a car driven by Trinh Van Nghi, 31, on Tuesday. Nghi said that he planned to bring them to the central province of Quang Binh for sale. Pangolins are hunted for meat in many parts of Africa and for remedies in Chinese traditional medicine. Trade in pangolins is forbidden and they are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). They are listed in Vietnam’s Red Book as endangered. |
