World Yingluck cancels Twitter account after hacker attack
English.news.cn 2011-10-03 17:47:40 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BANGKOK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Twitter account of Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been terminated after being manipulated by hackers to defame the PM and the government, officials said Monday. More than 29,000 followers of Yingluck's twitter account may be shocked to find on the page words defaming the female prime minister and her Pheu Thai government, then they will not be so surprised the next day to see the account turned into a blank page, with almost all the previous tweets deleted. Information and Communications Technology Minister Anudith Nakornthap said that Yingluch had made up her mind to stop using twitter and would from now on only contact the netizens via her Facebook page. Yingluck's personal twitter account @PouYingluck was hacked Sunday morning at around 10.20 a.m. as the hackers posted about eight messages defaming the government and premier. Anudith said that the police investigation was under way and they had identified the culprits. According to the law of Thailand, a hacker who violates computer laws will face a prison term of not more than five years or a fine of not over 100,000 bath (about 32, 100 U.S. dollars) or both. After coming into power on Aug. 10, the new government has been embattled by many problems ranging from widespread and long- standing floods to difficulty of honoring its campaign promises. Yingluck, the first female premier of the country and the youngest sister of the ousted ex-PM Thaksin, has been trying to keep closer ties with ordinary people and used Twitter quite often to address the people about government policies. Last Saturday, she launched a radio program called "Yingluck government meets people" to further promote her policies. |
