Default President’s grip on power shaken as army refuses to fire on million-strong march
Is the end nigh for Mubarak?
President’s grip on power shaken as
army refuses to fire on million-strong march

UK Daily Mail
Feb 1, 2011

As many as two million people are expected to take to the streets in Egypt later today in a mass demonstration that could finally topple president Hosni Mubarak after he was dealt a crushing blow by the nation’s military.

Peaceful protesters were told by military chiefs last night that they would not be fired upon by soldiers, giving the green light for Egyptians to take to the streets without fearing for their safety.

The army statement, aired on state TV, said the powerful military recognises ‘the legitimacy of the people’s demands’, the strongest sign yet that it is willing to let the protests continue and even grow as long as they remain peaceful – regardless of whether it leads to the fall of Mubarak.

Organisers had initially called for one million people to spill into the streets to demand Mubarak’s resignation, but the reassuring message from the military looks set to lead to a serious escalation in participation and protesters, in their droves, have ignored a curfew imposed for a fourth straight day.

chaos, but by looking at the situation, it would not work in singapore, because a lot of singaporean doing very well under PAP. The number of poor singaporean willing to come out like this would be limited. Without massive crowd of people, it will not work, and those who dare come out will be arrested.

of course if massive number of singaporean come out, then PAP will sure topple, but you and i know it is not going to happen here.

The PAP can do what they've done because of the massive number of people leaving Spore. These are the middle class & the kind of people other 1st world countries are happy to accept.

As things get worse in Spore, the ones still stuck in Spore will turn on the PAP as the majority are not "members" of the elite. It's only a matter of time since the PAP is only getting greedier.

When it happens it'll catch the PAP off guard.

no point shooting...the army are watching...ready to grab power.

once that happens, marshal law declared...no shooting needed.

Mubarak is living on borrowed time. Maybe waiting for US to come in the scoop him out.

the military will have power then, and they won't stir shit to disturb the people.
