Six foreigners nabbed in RM8.6mil drugs haul

SHAH ALAM: Police seized more than RM8mil worth of drugs and detained six foreigners, including three women, in a series of arrests last week.

The first arrest was made on Jan 13, when police intercepted four Iranian nationals who had arrived at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal of the KL International Airport (KLIA) from Teheran at 1.30pm, said Selangor narcotics chief Asst Comm Nordin Kadir.

The Iranians, three of them women, attempted to smuggle drugs into Malaysia by wearing custom-made corsets, ACP Nordin said.

“The four suspects, aged between 23 and 49, were carrying 28kg of syabu worth RM7mil around their waists,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He said police believed this was the new modus operandi of Iranians, as previous attempts such as using secret compartments in their luggage had failed.

On the same day, another Iranian man, 34, was nabbed at KLIA at 3pm with 3.5kg of syabu in his luggage valued at about RM850,000.

On Saturday, another 34-year-old man from India was nabbed at KLIA at 1.15pm. Police seized 25kg of ketamine worth RM750,000 from him.
