Laundry operator and daughter killed in shop fire

KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman and her daughter were burnt to death when fire broke out at their rented shophouse at Kampung Batu Enam, Manir here last night. The charred remains of Nor Laila Yaacob, 41, and that of Nor Hidayu Kauzi, 19, were found near each other in a bedroom in the house.

Their bodies have been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post-mortem. The 11.30pm fire, which occurred near a petrol station, destroyed their laundry shop and two other premises, a shop selling computer software and a cosmetic shop.

Kuala Terengganu fire and rescue operation chief Mohd Fauzi Muda said the station received a distress call at 11.32pm.

Nor Laila’s eldest son, Mohd Badrul Kauzi, 23, said the bodies of his mother and sister would be brought back to their hometown in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, for burial at the Kampung Demit Muslim cemetery. — Bernama
