KUALA LUMPUR: Police shot dead a 38-year-old foreigner who opened fire on them during a drug raid near the Selayang wholesale market here. City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the police team met with gunshots when they tried to force their way into the building’s third floor.

“My men saw the suspect running into a room and fired three shots, hitting him in the head and body,” he said. The suspect died at the scene and his body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem. Police believe there were others in the house but they managed to escape through the ceiling.

DCP Zulkifli said police seized 450gm of heroin and 21gm of ketamin worth RM25,000 from the room where the suspect was shot. He said initial investigations revealed that the suspect did not have valid travel documents and had been in the country for the past three years. The suspect had in 2008 been placed under the Restricted Residents Act in Sentul.

“We are investigating if he was involved in other criminal activities besides drug distribution,” he said.
