Dying woman marries prisoner who stole for her

Published Nov 18 2010

Meizi and her husband praying during the wedding

A man in China who stole to pay for his terminally-ill girlfriend’s medical expenses married her while in prison. Meizi, the 37-year old bride is in the late stages of cancer bride. Her undentified 42-year old groom is a prisoner in the Jiaonan prison in the Henan province.

He was sentenced to four years jail after being caught stealing money to pay for her treatments.
As a dying woman, all Meizi wished for was to wear a wedding gown just once in her life. Her unindentified boyfriend fulfilled her wish with the help of the prison authorities. On Nov 12, he took her hand and walked her down the aisle in a special wedding ceremony organised for the couple.

But it was a painful walk for the beaming bride. Meizi was staggering and the wedding ceremony originally planned to be half an hour only lasted for 10 minutes before she had to be carried out by her husband.
Several hundred people who witnessed the prison wedding were moved to tears.

Very touching, if i were the judge, i would suspend the sentence for the minor offence for at least 2-3 years to give them some time together while she is still alive. He can then serve his sentence to the society after that.
