Default Scam

Nanyang Siang Pau published a report about a woman who swindled RM600,000 from about 50 people, including the wealthy, in Malacca. The woman, identified as Tang, 48, operated a travel agency and a boutique. She told the victims that she had been trained in the United States as an interpreter. They were told that she was promoting a type of investment which she claimed could offer them high returns.

The victims, most of whom were from Malacca, gave her between RM700 and RM85,000 each.
The investors became suspicious when they discovered that nothing seemed to have come out of their investments. When they visited Tang, both the boutique and the travel agency had closed and she was nowhere to be found.
