Bus passengers foil snatch theft

KLANG: Quick action by passengers of a bus thwarted a snatch theft attempt on a college student at Jalan Kampung Jawa here. Tengku Anne Amirah Tengku Pateh Akhir, 17, was chatting on her mobile phone in the bus when two men grabbed her phone before dashing for the exit as the bus was about to make a stop to pick up some passengers on Monday night. The girl’s screams alerted other passengers in the bus who went after the suspects.

One of the suspects tripped and fell and was soon overpowered by several passengers and some people at the bus stop. However, the other suspect escaped. The student’s RM300 phone was recovered from the suspect. “It’s frightening to know that snatch thefts can happen in a bus,” said Tengku Anne Amirah. Klang South OCPD Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Mat Yusop praised the passengers for making the citizen’s arrest.
