Iran, USA, Canada, it makes no difference when religious fundamentalists are in charge. If there was a survey of Americans and the question was how to deal with adultery and stoning was one of the options a certain percentage of US citizens would check that box.
However, Iran is very enlightened in it's method, since one good stone could put the person out of their misery. During the reign of Tamerlain male adulterers were wrapped in a rug with maggots. Women were put in a cloth bag with cats and people would beat the bag. |

Hey, global warming baby. And more Americans mean less polite. All that stands in our way is the metric system and French. As far as the metric system, got to catch up sooner or later ( I mean, the US, Burma and Liberia.....lol) Unlike trying grasp imperial units, metric is pretty easy.... |

what the hell, this is just insane !! First American Hikers and now German reporters ???
something is brewing ... The arrest of two German reporters in Iran worried the crisis staff of the Foreign Office. Through diplomatic contacts, the Ministry tried to defuse the politically sensitive case - given the tense relations with the country an extremely difficult task. While they wanted to interview the legal counsel of the condemned to death by stoning Sakine Mohammadi Aschtiani in the presence of her son, two journalists were on Sunday night, according to official Iranian data arrested in the office of the lawyer. Politically, the arrest could hardly come at a worse time. Because of the dispute over Iran's nuclear program, the relations with the regime in Tehran are icy, recently, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before the UN General Assembly an inflammatory speech held. In this climate, two German nationals freizubekommen that may have failed, in fact of Iranian law appears, even optimists in the Department as a task that requires much tact and patience and ingenuity. Ok this is good, and hopefully social media internet will play a vital role like it did in Egypt !!
The World Today - Wave of unrest spreads to Iran 15/02/2011 HILLARY CLINTON: What we see happening in Iran today is a testament to the courage of the Iranian people and an indictment of the hypocrisy of the Iranian regime - a regime which over the last three weeks has constantly hailed what went on in Egypt, and now when given the opportunity to afford their people the same rights as they called for on behalf of the Egyptian people, once again illustrate their true nature. |

Iranian analyst warns of brutality in Tehran
The World Today - Iranian analyst warns of brutality in Tehran 17/02/2011 Iran's supreme leader the Ayatollah Khamenei is now calling for mass counter demonstrations on Friday to show what he calls the people's "hatred" of the opposition protesters who are demanding more radical change than the 2009 demonstrators. But an Iranian analyst warns that Iran is not Egypt and that the army will have no qualms about crushing the revolt. I think that Iran is a really, really difficult case and it can't be compared to Egypt. But I think that you know the population is changing and we're not looking at you know an uprising that would happen next year for example. I wouldn't expect that. |

Read more: Iran Fails To Silence Critics By Changing Woman's Death Sentence From Stoning To Hanging | Fox News According to Article 7 of the ICCPR convention, “no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” Article 6ix states that a death sentence should only be imposed for the most serious of crimes. “Adultery, by all international standards, does not qualify as one of the ‘most serious crimes,’” Barrans said. And one more on deathrow : Defiant Iranian Likely To Face Execution For Tossing Shoes At Mahmoud Ahmadinejad | Fox News The former textile worker, who had recently lost his job at the factory in the city of Sari, was in attendance there when Ahmadinejad was speaking to workers about the great achievements of his government. Sources say Shahbandi, who is under financial distress due to the high medical cost of his son’s burn injuries, grew angry while listening to the speech and hurled his shoes — considered an ultimate insult across the Middle East — at Ahmadinejad. Shahbandi has a history of defiance; he has previously insulted Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and thrown eggs at former President Sayyid Mohammad Khatami when he was in office. It was not immediately clear when and if Shahbandi will have a trial. “Iran is an autocratic society. If people start to lose fear of that autocratic regime, then it collapses,” Michael Rubin, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, a public policy think tank, told FoxNews.com at the time of the incident.
