'Assad's story is not believable'

During the past nine months the people of Syria have taken to the streets in protest against their government and over 4,000 have paid with their lives.

Yet on Wednesday, in a rare television interview with ABC's Barbara Walters, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flatly denied that he ordered the use of brutality, instead blaming the violence on others.

To discuss that interview, the BBC's Jane O'Brien was joined by Bilal Saab, fellow at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Default U.S., Europe call for Syrian leader al-Assad to step down
this guy just wont let go .... keeps killing people every day !!

Top U.S. and European leaders called Thursday for Syria's president to step down, significantly ratcheting up international pressure against a regime that has been criticized for its harsh crackdown against anti-government protesters.

"The future of Syria must be determined by its people, but President Bashar al-Assad is standing in their way," President Barack Obama said in a written statement. "We have consistently said that President Assad must lead a democratic transition or get out of the way. He has not led. For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside."

You mean the "bombing campiagn" consisting of economic sanctions and strong words?

Syria ia a Saudi client state, which is why we haven't (and likely won't) take any military action against them.

Better question: how long do you think you'll last before getting banned this time, Jack?

I don't. I just thought it was a better question than the one you posed.

You are wrong about it being a Saudi client state, in fact, you couldn't be further from the truth. They are in fact propped up by the Iranians who are in the middle east the Saudi's worse enemy.

You frequently wonder into these international debates and show your total lack of knowledge on the subject. You seem to have an addiction to this board. Perhaps sticking to things you have reasonable knowledge of would help.
