Will the US step in here ?? this is extremly escalating ..
U.S. presses Libya to halt crackdown and threatens action - Yahoo! News "We are considering all appropriate actions," the U.S. official said, without specifying what kinds of measures might be at Washington's disposal. Washington's few options in response to Gaddafi's protest crackdown might include reimposing some sanctions, possibly even touching on Libya's oil industry. But such moves would take time, would require a unified Western stand and could also hurt U.S. oil companies' interests. |

I'm wondering if maybe we should go over there and bomb protesters to prevent oil prices from increasing? When and if they do go up, will we come up with a reason to put down these protests?
Thats a bit tongue in cheek, but after all we're pretty much the ones that have supported these regimes for years. Its part and parcel of the whole "we want democracy for everyone, unless lobbyists tell us we don't." |

FT.com / Comment / Opinion - Prepare for a shock from the Middle East
Now the oilprices are exploding, theres a new economic shock coming, and of course gas prices soon will increase.... Bahrain, fifth fleet ..are they on alert ?? http://www.cusnc.navy.mil/ With an oil exporter such as Libya now in the grips of a popular uprising, masarkets will push oil prices higher to reflect much greater supply uncertainties for this key global commodity. And with sectarian issues now on display in Bahrain, geopolitical risks are higher for the region – especially as other countries seek to influence events in the Kingdom. |

Gaddafi is one of my favorite tinpot dictators .. highly entertaining man http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/23/wo...bles.html?_r=1 After New Year’s Day 2009, Western media reported that Seif al-Islam el-Qaddafi, a son of the Libyan leader Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, had paid Mariah Carey $1 million to sing just four songs at a bash on the Caribbean island of St. Barts. As the Qaddafi clan conducts a bloody struggle to hold onto power in Libya, cables obtained by WikiLeaks offer a vivid account of the lavish spending, rampant nepotism and bitter rivalries that have defined what a 2006 cable called “Qadhafi Incorporated,” using the State Department’s preference from the multiple spellings for Libya’s troubled first family. ![]() |
