William Franklin Sands was one of the first graduates of the State Departments school of diplomacy in the late 19th century. Around 1900 he was stationed with the US ligation in Korea but eventually became a trusted adviser in the Korean court at a time when Japan, China, & Russia were all ready to pounce on Korea.
His papers are at PAHRC at St. Charles Borromeo Sem. and it seems that he lived spent a year living dangerously sleeping with a sword and a gun. He also published a book called our: Jungle Diplomacy. |
