I suspect the evidence presented was limited and that's why the sentence seems so light. Maybe he actually got a fair trial. A show trial could have produced a much longer sentence.

Maybe when his sentence is finished he'll request a few more years to avoid a little street justice/vengeful mob, or bad karma.

He'll be 86 when he's released, so hopefully he won't make it until then. He should spend his last day on earth in a prison, just like his victims.

And I'm surprised that Cambodia doesn't have the death penalty.

I'm guessing they've had enough of state sanctioned killing. Like most of the world (except us).

I suspect there was great abuse of the "death penalty" during the Khmer Rouge period and the people said "enough".
