Default Lockerbie bomber freed, cheers at home.
TRIPOLI, Libya – The only man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing returned home Thursday to a cheering crowd after his release from a Scottish prison — an outrage to many relatives of the 270 people who perished when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded.

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said although al-Megrahi had not shown compassion to his victims — many of whom were American college students flying home to New York for Christmas — MacAskill was motivated by Scottish values to show mercy.

Screw the mercy because he is dying. To bad. He was convicted of mass murder. Let him rot in jail.

This just shows you how week the west is getting. Libya sponsors this and the other plane bombings and now everything is OK? These politicians have the memory of a fruit fly.

How about he gets the same compassion he showed the passengers on that plane? Unreal.

I thought the Scots people were supposed to be a tough and virulent nation, who could resist anything and display courage and valor.

I guess that's a sh*tstain on my heritage. No wonder the English hate them.

My feelings exactly. He needs to be brought to 30,000 ft and pushed out of the plane. Horrible.

Well, if you want to get metaphysical about it, the guy is preparing to die a painful and ignominious death that no medicine or omnipotent god can prevent. He is going to face the frailty and impotence of human life. You think a few month more in a prison cell is going to teach him more than that?

No, it's more for the benefit of the victims families and to not reward a nation with PR of their returned "hero".

Should have let him die his painful death alone in his jail cell.

I saw some film of him in his "cell." It's actually a reasonably well-equipped apartment with wall hangings and book shelves and a couple of simple chairs and couches. Looked at lot like my modest but comfortable university-owned dorm suite when I was in college.

Apparently "Hard Time" in Scottland isn't exactly Leavenworth or Rikers Island.

Not that I'd want to be locked away for life in my old dorm room, but still...

Libyan leader Qaddafi (who hugged this POS upon his arrival) will be visiting the UN and staying in North Jersey next month, could be interesting.

Or maybe he's innocent and he's going to get to spend what's left of his now-miserable life at home with his family. Who knows?

I'm not expert on the matter but I know that most of the evidence against the guy was pure crap with even the chairman of the Scottish high court and UN observer to the trials saying that the defendant suffered from a "miscarriage of justice."

To the degree by which a lot of people - effortlessly - spew venom and hatred at this individual you'd think we all watched him plant the bomb on prime time television.

I'm not trying to indulge in conspiracy but the fact that to this day neither Britain or Scotland has been willing to publicize the court and/or criminal investigation reports only lends credence to my point and fans the flame of speculation.

I heard this morning on NPR that his condition has improved and he is expected to live another 10 years.

It seems there is some speculation that none other than BP was somehow involved with his release in order to gain oil contracts in Libya.
