Why did they let them enter with a video camera?, the one guy says he had to hide it but then he's filming out in the streets, subway and interviewing a girl, not exactly undercovered.

How lucky I'm not to have been born in that place.

Default Crazy N Korea
Vice Guide to North Korea 1 of 3 - The Vice Guide to Travel | VBS.TV
Vice Guide to North Korea 2 of 3 - The Vice Guide to Travel | VBS.TV
Vice Guide to North Korea 3 of 3 - The Vice Guide to Travel | VBS.TV

There is a bit of fluff, but its an interesting series. Specifically bc it shows us what NK WANTS us to see. Does anyone know of other documentaries (that can be viewed online) by Americans in NK?

Others:
YouTube - Welcome to North Korea by Peter Tetteroo and Raymond Feddema / Documentary Educational Video
Documentary from inside North Korea! • VideoSift: Online Video *Quality Control

the welcome to North Korea video is a tad more "realistic".

that guy from VBS is a bit of an ass.

Two excellent VBS videos are the Afghanistan one and the Pakistan Gun Markets one.

I remember watching it on TV, it was around 2008. It was before the capture of Ling.

Nothing says crazy like kidnapping a director and actor, then forcing them to make your own socialist Godzilla movie...

That's a pretty good video.

The Vice guys did the most in-depth exploration of North Korea I have yet seen...I'm amazed they got out with the video!

Could not agree more. Usually interesting topics, but that dude is maybe the most loathsome person i could imagine injecting into legitimately insane situations. Such a spoiled hipster archetype.

That being said, I watched the entirety of their doc on Libya, which is unquestionably one of the craziest places in the world. Lots of screen time with a former rebel leader/cannibal turned preacher. Worth a look.

And welcome to NK is better for those who have not seen it. I also highly recommend "Crossing the Line", a documentary about the one surviving US military defector to North Korea. He was used in propaganda films as the typical ruthless US capitalist villain for decades, and became one of the nations biggest (and only) celebrities. He fathered several children with russian and african diplomats in the country, and currently lives a comparatively comfortable, state-subsidized existence. Very interesting.

NK is posturing itself belligerently...but I don't think that they could depend on Chinese military aid should conflict erupt there once again. If NK actually does more than just posture and invades, more or less the full available might of half of the major militaries in the developed world would basically be instantly mobilized to South Korea's aid. My guess is China would play at being neutral, especially since the fact that NK's (lack of a) market isn't even open to Chinese interests has probably soured Beijing on doing more than maintaining the status quo in recent years. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how I read the situation--if NK is going into this banking on Chinese help, they're not going to get it.

That's a reasonable premise. However, if the US were to take military action I believe China, regardless of how little they like N. Korea, would probably support NK. I believe China sees this as their arena especially as they have been involved in Korea for 1500 years or more. An attack on N. Korea could make things more difficult for the US and make China stronger. However, it's unlikely to come to that since China is a source of credit for the US.
