The depravity and brazenness of the Mexican drug cartels is simply disgusting.

It's a shame we don't care until Americans are killed.

That's what I was thinking. There have been reports of the escalating violence in Mexico, for some time now. Since it's only really affected Mexicans, you don't hear too much about it. Even the incidents of kidnapping that happen in Arizonia and Texas seem to be swept under the rug because mainly Mexicans are the one's being kidnapped.

The Americans being killed are a direct result of ignoring the Mexicans being killed. This kind of crap is only going to continue. Mexico is embroiled in a full scale war but there doesn't seem to be any real recognition of this.

That's probably a big contributing factor as to why the Mexican war isn't generally front burner news. But then if you look at the media coverage of Afghanistan during, for example, the week of Michael Jackson's dirt nap, Americans don't seem all that interested in war coverage, especially war effecting poor people.

Apropos of securing a national border with a war-wracked neighbor, check out this bonndoggle: Virtual U.S.-Mexico Border Fence At A Virtual End : NPR

Here is an article about a raid on the home of a drug warlord and pictures of the cash found in the home. We really have to rethink the war on drugs.

And that scum wouldn't be making money if we'd stop caring what people do on their own damn free time. We're going to have to wait until the Reagan era polticos die out before there's a real chance of stopping this nonsense.

Where's the pro-life crowd now? It's only going to get worse. Those gangs aren't just in Mexico. They are operating all over the US. It is definitely time to end the expensive stagnant drug war. What other solutions do we have?

Now they are saying that the hitmen might have killed the wrong people. If so, that just illustrates the fact that the crimes surround the drug trade are more dangerous than the drugs. If not, I am sure it is response to some sizable sum of cash they we slipped Mexico under the radar or something similar. We should mind our own business.

They ONLY care about you:

Before you are born
After you die
(and the odd human veggie)

So, you'd be okay with legalizing crack and heroin?

That's an odd statement to make with nothing to back it up.
But then, if you think a human can be a vegetable, facts are probably not your friends.

You would know seeing as how you almost exclusively make odd statements with nothing to back you up. Thanks for not deviating from the norm.

That's a tough one.

I favor legalizing and taxing marijuana first as a pilot program. Then, looking into the legalization of cocaine and/or possibly heroin.

I think that crack is so dangerous you'd have to keep it illegal.

The crime which is directly tied to cocaine crack and heroin is so vast and costly that it is almost a no brainer to at least study legalizing them.

The problem is they're so addictive, that it would take a horrible toll on society. Of course we'd pay a terrible price in broken families, destroyed relationships, lost productivity, and increased welfare dependence.
Right now, you mainly have drug dealers gunning eachother down and addicts stealing/robbing.
If it was legalized, you'd certainly have more people using it, and the robbery/theft would also rise.
It's likely you'd still have illicit dealers who'd be just as likely to resort to violence. Either they'd sell it at cheaper prices (evading taxes) or, if it was sold in a controlled manner, like prescription drugs, they'd sell them w/o a prescription.

Pot, hallucinogens, etc.

Crack, cocaine, and heroin are all bad news. However I'd support some sort of study to see the feasibility of legalization and noone caught possessing small amounts or using should be jailed.
