Al Gore and Jeffrey Immel of GE are both seeing psychiatrist, due to psychotic depression. It can be a b1tch when reality slaps you across the face. Gore may have more shame then Clinton.

Default Skeptics: 2 Environmentalists: 0
Not a good week for environmentalists

NYT: Cut forests, save the environment Don Surber

Long before the global warming crowd was cooking up data at the University of East Anglia, the self-proclaimed environmentalists were screaming about protecting the Northern Spotted Owl from those evil capitalistic lumber companies.

Woodsman, spare thy ax and all that jazz.

Nevermind that foresters said it was all right — that young forests are better for the environment.

Timbermen evil. Owls good. Ugh. Grunt. Snort.

Give them time these faddist environmentalists.

And lo and behold, today the New York Times doth proclaim on Page One: “The giant evergreens of the West have long been proclaimed essential, whether the cause was saving salmon and spotted owls or small towns and their sawmills. Now, with evidence showing that American forests store 15 percent or more of the carbon gases produced in the nation, expectations are growing for them to do even more.

“Over the next 50 years or so, experts say, some forests could be cultivated to grow bigger, more resilient trees, potentially increasing their carbon storage by 50 percent and providing an important ‘bridge’ to a time when the nation will theoretically have shifted away from greenhouse-gas producing fossil fuels.”

Dead tree media supports logging. Film at 11.

Color me utterly shocked.

I'm of two minds on this: forest fires are part of the natural ecological cycle. The only reason we not work so hard to prevent them is that many people live in wooded semi-rural suburbs.

On the other hand, we've had manicured forests in Europe for the last 600-800 years, at least.

I don't think it's been an bad week for environmentalists, either, as there's not been any actual negative hard science, just more bluster from those who want to continue with the status quo.

That's why his motives have been questioned. Is he really concerned about the environment, or about being the capitalist-pig king of his new industry he's helping to create for himself?

Either way I'm on board... since GE hopped on this train I bought more shares.

Couldn't it maybe, just maybe be enlightened self-interest on his part? You know -he wants to protect the environment, save the planet and maybe make a few bucks in the process.
