[QUOTE: We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. [/QUOTE]
Philadelphians killed the ideals of the American Revolution. The empire is dead. Now its just a bunch of murderers and thieving politicians. |

The Ireland in question is the Republic of Ireland. Officially Belfast is in Norhtern Ireland and part of Great Britain and therefore under British rule. If you are going to be an ass at least spell Northern correctly. |

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has signed new gun control legislation into law.
The act bans handguns in Ireland and also introduces a requirement for referees, background medical checks and standards for the safe keeping of guns in the home for all firearms licence applicants. It also makes it an offence to brandish a realistic imitation firearm in public. Mr Ahern says the legislation is designed to halt the emergence of a gun culture in Ireland. Link Guns in Ireland? Really? |

Problem is, the "gun culture" in Ireland is related to the drug smuggling into the southwest area and the distribution of those drugs in Dublin, not because all the residents have become Irish versions of Dirty Harry. Somehow, I don't think the drug smugglers are going to worry about the handgun ban.

THE Irish don't need guns, they will beat you to death with their hands. Catholics hurl petrol bombs at Belfast police By SHAWN POGATCHNIK (AP) – Jul 13, 2009 BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Militant Catholics are hurling firebombs, fireworks and other makeshift weapons at Northern Ireland police in opposition to a Protestant parade passing through the bitterly divided north side of Belfast. An Associated Press reporter has witnessed the crowd in the hard-line Catholic district of Ardoyne throw about a half-dozen Molotov cocktails at riot police. The security forces are trying to clear the way for a parade by about 1,000 Protestants from the Orange Order brotherhood and their accompanying bands. Police have responded with charges by club-wielding riot police and water cannon blasts. Monday's violence at Ardoyne was the worst during daylong parades by the Orangemen, an anti-Catholic fraternal group. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Police in Northern Ireland say a small bomb has detonated in the city of Armagh as Protestant hard-liners paraded across the British territory. There were no injuries. No group claimed responsibility for Monday's blast on the Friary Road of Armagh, but police and politicians suspect Irish Republican Army dissidents. Protestants from the Orange Order brotherhood were marching on a different Armagh road when security forces spotted the suspected bomb. Police say the bomb exploded before British army explosives experts could defuse it using a remote-controlled robot. |
