I am betwix 'n between on this issue. On one hand, it is possible that the English are just as sick of this unending situation as the most of the Americans, and this is sinply a first step to pulling out completely. IF so, why are they going to take till 08 to get completely out?

On the other hand. (the six finger ploy) HEH HEH

It is possible that they really "DO" think things are going well for their area, and thus can afford to throttle down. But here also is a question. IF so, why aren't these troops being deployed to Bagdad to help out there???

Emphasis mine.

Therein lies the answer to your conundrum my brother.

They are getting out because the British people DEMAND that they get out .. which, by the way, is how America will get out. The 2006 elections was the start of that rebellion to force our politicians to get the hell out of Iraq.

It is no different than Vietnam. The American people got us out, not politicians.

Sorry, but to me, that is still a question. not the answer. However, I sincerely hope you are correct that congress will get us the hell out, COMPLETELY, and BEFORE the end of the Year.

Greetings and Felicitations,

Maybe its because we are sending more troops. Why should they risk their soldiers when we are willing to sacrifice ours? I think that if things continue then America will end up doing it alone.

I wonder what the effect will be on the morale of our troops when our staunchest ally, except for Australia, pulls their troops out.

Sincerely Yours,
C. David Neely
Our new troop deployments are not going to Basra, so kind of an ignorant statement.

And the effect on the morale of our troops should be that they can succeed in spite of the fact that Democrats have no faith in their ability here in America. Actually quite an insult to them.

Very interesting indeed.

You mean instead of insisting on "victory" without any defined plan or timetable, he's defining a plan and a timetable?

How unreasonable of him. [sarchasm]

What does America do now that our main buddy in this fight is going home?
They're wimps. They don't want to stand and fight, those cowards. All the liberals want us to do is surrender in Antarctica, and let the penguins win.

The move also fits in with a plan to increase British troop numbers in Afghanistan in a renewed attempt to hunt down Osama bin Laden and other senior al-Qa'eda figures who are believed to be hiding close to the country's border with Pakistan.

Senior American and British military figures believe that withdrawals can begin by April next year because coalition forces will have trained enough members of the Iraqi defence and police forces to take control of security throughout Iraq.

The disclosure coincides with an announcement by a senior United States Marine Corps general that America would probably start withdrawing its troops in 12 to 24 months.

Tony Blair has always insisted that British troops will remain in Iraq for as long as they are needed but as the security situation in the southern half of the country stabilises the justification for a retaining sizeable British military presence has diminished. Leave it to some to jump the gun and think that the UK is giving up.
