O'reilly is a hack.........

but that doesn't mean I am running for the remote to get "news" from Jon Stewart either...
But O'Reilly pretends he is bringing serious news to serious viewers.

John Stewart is a comedian, he knows he is a comedian, and he is there for a laugh.

I wouldn't get my news from either source, but i do get laughs from both those guys, its just that O'Reilly is not trying to be funny.

But why is it sad?
Its comedy news. An education survey does nothing to overcome that.

Back to the topic, has it been thouroughly disproved by watching the video?

If you get the same amount of news or more from it, why is it sad if it is also done in a comedy style?

Because some of the information on there is false. And the intent is not to inform, but to entertain. I dont think anyone should get their news primarily from the mass media either, as they are just as bad in their own way.

If people critiqued the elite media the same way as Fox...but that's not going to happen now is it?

What do you mean? Almost every poster on this site has said Couric's show is terrible. Isn't she part of the "elite media"? I've heard rant and rave about CNN and PBS since forever? People are almost universally agreed that the state of journalist is in bad shape. Which part did I miss? Which part of "media elite" isn't getting criticized?

Look at the treatment Tom Brokaw got for example. The story had its 5 minutes of fame. Look at the lack of coverage Air America gets. From what I have been able to determine, the left attacks which much more fervor than the right does. Although its possible that the media simply covers the lefts attack more than the rights. ie, an antiwar protest is covered more than a pro war rally.

Well, unlike O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh, at least Jon Stewart bases his skits on reality.....
Umm, no. He just tells the same shit the "news" shows do and makes fun of it. It's a comedy show.

The difference between Stewart and guys like Bill O'Reily, Keith Olbermann, or Chris Mathews is that Jon Stewart doesn't try to pass off his show as news or even serious commentary like the others.

He presents it as satire.

Tom Brokaw was how long ago? Maybe nobody talks about Air America because it's complete crap and is going under and it's not surprising. What's surprising is the fact that conservative radio does the exact same thing and is thriving. Could it be because liberals don't want partisan hack telling them what their opinions should be?

He presents it as satire while actually delivering useful information. He's not even trying but his show is slowly becoming a source for information. Journalists should hang their heads in shame.

Ah, yes. I long for the days when real women like Andrea Dworkin ran the news. Gee. Make something pleasing to watch? How subversive can you get?

Can you give the forum an example of this "useful information" that Stewart has bestowed upon you?

I'd say people who see a comedy skit as a source of reliable information are sinking their minds even lower. They are the ones eating shit off the ground and assuming that it's food...

I think youll find on this forum that Fox is crticized much more often than the mass media, and they are only one outlet, whereas the mass media is many. The right simply doesnt spen as much time critiquing the left as the left does the right. Look at the threads on this forum. Even though the democrats are now in charge of congress, most of the congress critiques are aimed at Republicans.

Watch the SNL news break. The news is told as sarcastic joke. I dont care to offer specific examples. That it is sad is simply my opinion.

They're both equally valid news sources?

Fox gets criticized so much because they report BS on their channel. If there is another outlet that screws the facts as much as Fox, you'll see that outlet criticized just as much and as harshly as Fox. But there is no such an entity like Fox. Hence, Fox is criticized much more than the mostly fact-based mass media.

You see, there is always a logical explanation that counters your bias.
