Watching it now...Fox News Live - Video - FoxNews.com
Edit: Kudos to the moderator for not just asking "what would you do?" but also "how would you get that past a divided Congress?" |

I'm sad to see every one of them claim they would refuse to negotiate on ANY tax increases, no matter how small or how many spending cuts came with them. That kind of absolute refusal to negotiate is politically untenable. You either end up breaking your promise once in office or you cause gridlock. You can't be a politician and not compromise; the goal is to make good compromises in good faith.

If you watched the republican debate tonight--we saw slug-out that was unbelievable. Newt Gingrich took Criss Wallace of Fox New apart--on one of those "gotcha" questions. And Newt called him out on it--and the embarrasement was evident.
So in my opinion of what I just watched. Santorium gone--Palenty gone-Huntsman gone.- Who is still in: Gingrich--Bachmann--Cain--Paul--Romney. My personal opinion anyway--but after tonight Newt is BACK. |

Newt did a very good job tonight. He showed himself to be a real pro.
I think Bachman came off really well and established herself on principles. I think Cain did an outstanding job although he lacks polish. Romney was slick and did no damage to himself nor did he let anyone else damage him....he also avoided answering question like Muhammad Ali avoided jabs. Pawlenty came off as kind of an ass. Santorum and Huntsman basically showed why they can (and have been) be ignored. Ron Paul was at his Pauliest tonight. I don't think I've ever seen a guy with so much intelligence manage to come off as such a screwball. Personally, my support for Bachman was reinforced and my respect for Cain went up a notch. |

Newt did a very good job tonight. He showed himself to be a real pro. me lone observation after watchin' the debates (i wasn't fully focused, i was readin' a book also), i was shocked at how...well...low profile Mr. Huntsman is. i heard some good things about him, and a number 'o folks who hew to the right here on USPO had also been optmistic 'bout that fella. i mean, i'd read some analysis 'bout his entrance, and how he was the candidate that Mr. Obama ought to really fear... he seemed like he wasn't even thar. whats goin' on with him? aye? - MeadHallPirate |

ahoy Lutherf, He seems to have had some success in Utah but I have to wonder if some of that success wasn't due to influence from the church. It's kind of amazing what certain organizations can do when they are trying to keep a billionaire member around. Tonight was really the first time I took a good look at him and he struck me as being sincere but entirely unremarkable. |
