Internet survey on political and religious attitudes: kind request for participation

Dear members of the online forum,

We are clinical researchers from the University Medical Center in Hamburg (Germany). As a research group we have enacted a number of studies concerning religiosity. We are currently interested in conducting a study on religious and political beliefs. This is an exploratory study in which we hope to find a relationship between the sociological and psychological aspects of religiosity and politics. The study solely pursues scientific purposes and neither political nor religious ones. The project is neither sponsored nor inspired by any political party or religious group. This is an area in which little research has been carried out and we are excited to discover new insights. But, before we tell you more about the study, we kindly ask that you take some time and carefully review the following conditions for participation.

1. You are of at least 18 years of age.
2. You agree to answer truthfully and to the best of your knowledge the questions that are asked of you.

You do not have to be a religious person or have a strong (e.g., left or right) political opinion. The survey is aimed to reach a diverse population.

The study:

If you agree to participate in this study, any information obtained in connection with this project and that can identify you will remain strictly confidential. Your data will not be saved or processed with your name or contact details. Further your data will not be forwarded to any third party. We plan to publish the results in scientific journals, however all published information will be group data and remain anonymous. That is, information will only be published in such a way that you cannot be identified. We are also willing to post the final results on this forum, of course anonymously, so participants can review our findings. Participants who leave their email address at the end (optional) will be informed about the results directly.

We are conducting this study exclusively on the internet via online forums for religion and politics. Information will be collected in the form of an attitudinal survey which will again be completely confidential. In addition to the attitudinal survey, demographic information will be assessed as well as a brief psychological assessment. The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete so ensure that you have enough time to complete the assessment. We believe that conducting this study online will 1. allow us to reach a more diversified population 2. enable an outlet for people to express their true beliefs, free of social pressures and biases. We understand that the topics of religion and politics can often provoke strong feelings, but we hope that you are able to answer the questions to the best of your ability.

We would appreciate your support of our study. However, please take your time to decide whether or not you wish to take part. To participate, please use the following link:

The term religiosity connotes a bias against religion, but I can't believe that - coming from a university psychology department..

Why does a University Medical Center need research on political/religious views?
