Typical Democrats, stop the drilling.
We send 500 billion a year to oil Lords around the world and all the jobs that go with it, all because liberal's think oil is evil. Further the worst part is they don't care about sending all that money overseas along with the jobs, yet bitch about companies outsourcing. "Drill Baby Drill" and bring that money back home and all the jobs that go with it. Senate rejects GOP bill to expand, speed up offshore drilling By Ben Geman - 05/18/11 02:58 PM ET The Senate on Wednesday rejected Republican-backed legislation intended to speed up and expand offshore oil and gas drilling. In a 42-57 vote, the Senate failed to move forward with the bill, which was opposed by the White House and most Senate Democrats. Republicans needed 60 votes for the measure to proceed. Every Senate Democrat voted against the motion to proceed along with five Republicans: Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Mike Lee (Utah), Richard Shelby (Ala.), Olympia Snowe (Maine) and David Vitter (La.). The legislation – which is similar to bills the House approved in recent weeks – would set deadlines for several upcoming Gulf of Mexico lease sales. Gee... LA and AL voted against offshore drilling! Imagine that! Perhaps the bill did not include enough (or any) regulation reform in it for their tastes. Perhaps they've seen the folly in allowing a for profit industry that can have a HUGE impact upon their local economies if/when something goes wrong, basically regulate themselves. Perhaps it's not the drilling they are against so much as the current state of it.

No amount of drilling started today will have any effect on oil production for a minimum of a decade and that's if they do not spring another leak that devastates the livelihoods of millions and utterly destroys a local economy. In that same time, things will have gotten far worse. The time to begin the transition to alternative energy is now. This is where I want to see my tax dollars spent and where I want to see substantial policy shifts. We also need to deflate the massive amount of power the big oil companies have over our country. No one entity should have the power they have and it needs to be tamped down.

No one entity should have the power they have and it needs to be tamped down. Second. "the time to begin the transition to alternative energy is now" and just do how do you propose to do that? This should be interesting. Do you know, all this windmill and solar does not save us one drop of oil. Did you not further know most all our power plants are fired by coal or natural gas, not oil. If you think for a second solar and wind is going to power our ships, trains, planes, heavy trucks, light trucks, SUV' military equipment, autos, factories, etc etc. that is naive. So providing more electricity is not saving us a drop of oil. So please now come forth and provide your plan to transition to alternative energy now, and just what alternative energy is going to replace oil? |

I notice you don't mention the previous day's Senate vote, in which Republicans succeeded in fillibustering against saving $21 billion in unnecessary tax subsidies for the rich oil industry. Yeah, they are so concerned about the deficit...
![]() Anyway, back to the topic. Here's something that doesn't fit the conservative talking points: From the 2008 Obama for President Campaign Website •Promote the Responsible Domestic Production of Oil and Natural Gas. An Obama-Biden administration will establish a process for early identification of any infrastructure obstacles/shortages or possible federal permitting process delays to drilling in the Bakken Shale formation, the Barnett shale formation, and the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. From the Financial Times: US oil production last year rose to its highest level in almost a decade, thanks to an increase in the use of “unconventional” extraction techniques. As a result, analysts believe the US was the largest contributor to the increase in global oil supplies last year over 2009, and is on track to increase domestic production by 25 per cent by the second half of the decade. The revival of US production has been made possible by a rush of small and mid-sized companies into onshore regions such as the Bakken shale in North Dakota, the Permian Basin in west Texas and the Eagle Ford shale in south Texas. Yep, those Democrats sure hate the oil industry, don't they? (Pay no attention to the graph below). ![]() |
