While I certainly wish Israel wouldn't do that, it should be noted that our "allies" in Europe also sell arms to most of those countries, especially China, and they do it with technology we helped them develop.

Arms sales are an important export for many countries. The US uses arms sales primarily as a foreign policy tool, which makes us unique. Same goes for our trade policy in general, actually. Most nations' trade policies are based purely on business, but we use it primarily as a way to pursue foreign policy goals.
