YarrrRRRRRR!!!!!
ahoy me buckos! though i thought Ryancare was a disaster fer those 'o us who be under 55, i did enjoy the idear that pressure was finally bein' bought to bear to begin a serious dialogue on how to reduce spendin' on our eldest. one way or another, spendin' on the big three 'o entitlement healthcare plans have to be addressed...and fer that, congressman Ryan deserves credit fer puttin' a plan forward that, by hook or by crook, was goin' to cut the benefits old folks receive. i thought 'twas gutless that them who be o'er 55 would be untouched, fer it seemed like typical washington to hand out slices 'o pie now (in this case, tax cuts fer the wealthiest americans) and deal with the hurt far, far down the road. still...'twas a move in the right direction, fer if nothin' else, it pushed this urgent debate forward, aye....until now... House Republicans signaled on Thursday that they were backing away for now from the centerpiece of their budget plan — a proposal to overhaul Medicare — underscoring the political risks of addressing the nation’s long-term fiscal problems. Republican leaders insisted that they remained committed to the Medicare proposal, put forward by Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, which has drawn intense attacks from Democrats and liberal groups in recent weeks. But they chose not to proceed with legislation this year, effectively putting the issue off until after the next election. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/06/us...l.html?_r=1&hp *hawks out a ball 'o phlegm and spits it on the deck* rawr! let it not be said that them House conservatives give a damn 'bout the nation's balloonin' debt, fer instead 'o just puttin' the pain somewhar down the road, they've now tabled the entire debate on the most urgent part 'o our government spendin', due to a yellow bellied fear 'o gettin' keelhauled at the polls. house conservatives, apparently, prefer to dick around with nickel 'n dime budget items like planned parenthood and NPR. 'tis just more 'o the same, aye? the more pressin' matter 'o "how do we get elected?" reigns supreme amongst the concerns 'o our folks in washington. bah. - MeadHallPirate |

Of course the Repubes now deny this :Eric Cantor's Office Denies Report That GOP Is Dropping Medicare Reform welcome to USPO me hearty. though i be vexed o'er the ACA, fer i was hopin' fer reform to come in a very different form, i hafta give Captain Obama and his officers credit; they withstood a season's fusillade 'o cannonfire from all sides whilst passin' thar bill. imma surprised how thin skinned conservatives on capitol hill be. a little heat from a few town hall meetings, and they lift anchor and bury thar own bill. - MeadHallPirate |

ahoy Uncle Mike of S, But to budget cutting, if the Pub's run to the sideline on cutting spending, then I will be one mad SOB. This spending is insane, we know the Dem's won't touch anything that requires a cut in spending. So if the Pubs fail in cutting, then we're fucked. Simple as that. You liberals and all your entitlements will drag this country into the fires of hell, not even our great great grandkids will be able to bail us out for all our greedy entitlements that they would not ever see and yet would have to pay for our greed. |

I know and Obamacare is so well liked, there are only 30 states taking Obamacare to the Supreme Court to kill it. well, two things me bucko. a) we're both unhappy with the ACA, though i suspect it be fer different reasons. b) the "pubs", as ye put it, are hoistin' thar sails and runnin' away from cuttin' spendin' at a blisterin' pace...don't blink, or ye shall miss thar exit. ye can sleep in peace knowin' that they'll reduce spendin' by .0001% and take an axe to NPR and the budget fer the Securities and Exchange Commission (just don't ask "why" the next time thar be Wall Street malfeasance). conservative congressmen hate gettin' yelled at durin' town hall meetings. - MeadHallPirate |

We both know what the difference is, I want Obamacare repealed and you want a far left liberal thinking single payer system. as i said, the GOP will get back to ye in 2013. you just make yerself comfortable and sit tight till then. just make yerself at home with Oreo and Tsquare and Commodore and...ye know, they'll do some serious budget cuttin' sometime down the road (or somethin' like that). *retrieves a message in a bottle* *reads message* oh ya, they also thank ye fer yer vote in the last congressional votin' cycle. - MeadHallPirate ps - don't worry, the GOP will be busy showin' how serious they be by cuttin' some school lunch program and slice .0000001% off 'o government spendin'. till 2013, ye can feast on that. |

I know and Obamacare is so well liked, there are only 30 states taking Obamacare to the Supreme Court to kill it. Thus far the Ryan proposal is the only one that actually adds to the deficit since his tax cuts are not paid for. Stop avoiding these facts. |

The progressive caucus proposal cuts $5.8 trillion over 10 years by cutting over $1 trillion of the bloated defense budget and significantly cutting corporate subsidies. |

ahoy all!
i been doin' a bit 'o readin', and now it be clearer why conservatives in the House suddenly turned tail and abandoned the idear 'o Ryancare in droves...and here it be; President Obama yelled at'm. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor insisted the Republican Party as a whole is convinced Medicare and similar federal programs need to be radically reformed, but he said that President Obama had “excoriated us” over the proposal. GOP Drops Plan to Gut Medicare … Cantor says Obama ?excoriated us? over proposal. InvestmentWatch so, thar ye have it. the GOP will stand firm and hew to thar ideals...fer they be deficit hawks and will brook no dissent in thar pursuit 'o fiscal sanity. they be a tough bunch, battled hardned sea dogs 'o many journies. THEY'LL ASK FER NO QUARTER AND GIVE NONE, AYEEEEEE!!!!!! unless the president says mean things... - MeadHallPirate |
