Post Are the political issues of today too far over most of the electorates's heads? Is this a new phenomenon?
I feel like in early parts of our nations history, the role of government was smaller, life was simplier and knowledge as less specialized than today, so it wasn't really hard for concerned adults in the electorate to understand the decisions the people they elected were making.Today is way different. What the government does is extremely complex, everything is very complex, and people's understanding of the world is highly concentrated in certain areas of expertise so that for example...Congress can pass a health care bill and even very smart people have no idea how it will effect them, how it will effect the economy, or even what it is...I mean I was an Econ student in college and I am very aware of how perspective onthe new healthcare bill would have been radically different before I developed this specialized area of expertise. And I feel like something like this never would have happened 150 years ago, for the reasons I outlined earlier. Thoughts?
