Default New CEC appointment challenged
ISLAMABAD: The appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has been challenged in a petition filed in the Supreme Court on Monday here, while the prime minister secretariat hasn’t accepted the resignation of CEC Secretary, Ishtiaque Ahmad Khan, Geo News reported.

A freelance journalist Shahid Orakzai in his petition filed in SC said that Fakhruddin G Ibrahim’s appointment as CEC was flawed because of his old-age and being the former provincial governor. The petitioner also prayed for the issuance of an injunction order against the appointment.

On the other hand, sources told Geo News that the prime minister didn’t accept the resignation of CEC Secretary, Ishtiaque Ahmad Khan believed to have been submitted in previous months. The prime minister secretariat has advised Istiaque Ahmad Khan to continue working as usual.
