Default Opp hostile as NA session begins today
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is likely to present two important bills in the National Assembly’s session commencing from today (Friday), with one of them on dual nationality aiming to provide a legal cover to the parliamentarians having dual nationality.Sources said the National Assembly session could witness rumpus, like the budget session, as major opposition party (PML-N) has clearly hinted to oppose the dual nationality and contempt of court bills in the house. The division of opposition parties would be visible in the legislation of dual nationality bill as the second largest opposition party (JUI-F) might not support the PML-N, said sources. The federal cabinet has also given nod to the dual nationality bill to enable the overseas Pakistanis having dual nationality to contest elections for the membership of the parliament. In this urgently called short session, sources said, government is also planning to table contempt of court bill in the National Assembly. The draft of contempt bill was also unanimously approved in the recently held last federal cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.Apart from expected tabling of both the bills in the National Assembly, sources said, PPP government might also rectify the Presidential Ordinance to give legal cover to all actions of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during the period from April 26 to June 19.A couple of days before, President Zardari had promulgated a new ordinance to legitimise all actions of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during the period from April 26 to June 19.The ordinance has been ensured to be ‘iron-clad’ that will counter any challenge posed by any quarter and will not be challengeable in any court of law (including the Supreme Court). The first day’s sitting of the 44th session of lower house would be adjourned after offering Fatheha for the departed soul of PPP MNA Fauzia Wahab. The legislators from both opposition and treasury benches would also laud the contribution made by late MNA in their speeches.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the previous one day session called for prime minister’s election had appealed to the speaker to adjourn the proceedings due to death of PPP MNA.Whereas, PPP member Naveed Qamar had said the session was an important one and could not be adjourned, as the election of the prime minister was imperative to run the business of the government. It was decided to keep intact the parliamentary tradition, as the first day of the regular session would be adjourned after offering Fateha for the departed soul of PPP MNA Fauzia Wahab.
