ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is considering Makhdoom Shahbuddin and Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar for the Office of Prime Minister after the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani, sources said.
According to the sources, the decision was taken in a meeting attended by senior leaders of the PPP held here on late Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Asif Ali Zardari. The leaders also decided that the National Assembly session would be summoned on Thursday for the election of the Leader of the House, sources added. The final name for the prime minister will be announced in today's parliamentary party meeting of the PPP. Following the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani by the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon, the ruling coalition met here at the Presidency in an emergent meeting to discuss the pros and cons of the Supreme Court's decision to disqualify Gilani as the prime minister and MNA. President Asif Ali Zardari chaired the meeting. The participants authorised President Zardari to nominate the next premier. Former PM Gilani expressed reservations over the name of Shahabuddin during the meeting. Also, the ruling coalition partners have convened meetings of their respective parliamentary parties to discuss the current political situation |
