Default Govt has nothing to do with ‘familygate’: Malik
KARACHI - Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik on Saturday reiterated that the government had nothing to do with the Arsalan Iftikhar case, adding that it was a personal fight between two individuals.
Talking to reporters at Karachi airport, Malik said the matter was between two individuals, Arsalan Iftikhar and Malik Riaz, and it had no connection with him or with the government. He said the apex court expressed confidence in the government machinery by referring the case to the attorney general for investigation. The PM’s adviser said if the attorney general referred the case to Interior Ministry or to NAB, an impartial investigation would be conducted.
Asked about Karachi’s law and order, Malik hailed the performance of the provincial government and said Karachi was a big city and was therefore harder to manage. He also said that in the case of Karachi, one political group was trying to suppress another which was resulting in chaos. He said government was not responsible if an uncle killed his nephew in the city or two groups killed each other’s men. Malik criticised the Sharif brothers by referring to the duo as backstabbers.
He summarised Nawaz Sharif’s political history dating from the time of his allegiance with General Ziaul Haq to the time when he separated from Chaudhrys.
Malik accused the Sharif brothers of causing a political upheaval and staging a rebellion against the federation. He also accused them of financial corruption.
