ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that meetings with Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry were not objectionable, and the government enjoyed good relations with the judiciary.
Talking to journalists after addressing the concluding meeting of Education Conference on Wednesday, he said that there was unanimous consensus with India over discussing all outstanding issues, including Kashmir, Siachen and Sir Creek, in a peaceful, honorable and harmonious manner as decided in the secretary-level talks. Earlier addressing the Educational Conference, he stressed on students to pay full attention to their studies. Reminding his audience that even the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was asked to recite the word “read” when he was blessed with Prophethood, the PM assured them that the government had given a lot of importance to the education sector. He cited the presence of six globally renowned universities, which ranked amongst the best in 300 top universities of Southeast Asia. PM Gilani also lauded Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for establishing University Grants Commission (UGC), which gave birth to Higher Education Commission (HEC), whose role models were being followed by Indian and Bangladesh. He also said that Pakistan was producing 1000 PHDs annually, while before 2002, it was lesser, and also announced that he had recommended to government for allocating 7% of GDP for higher education |
