ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all provincial governments and the Capital Administration and Development Islamabad (CADD), to issue a notification within six weeks regarding transplantation of human organs and tissues. A two-member DV bench of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain issued direction on the human rights case, after law officers from the four provincial governments and official of CADD apprised it that they had done legislation and would require six-week time to issue notification in this regard.
During the course of the proceedings, Muneer A Malik, counsel for petitioners, apprised the bench that after devolution of the Health Ministry and its auxiliary departments to the provinces, the four governments and the CADD had failed to exercise their powers of lawmaking. Dr Aslam Khaki, counsel for the Society for Transplant Surgeon and Physicians, requested the bench for involvement of physicians in the exercise. |
