Default Indian spy to be released next week: Sherry
WASHINGTON - Pakistan’s Ambassador to United States Sherry Rehman has said that Pakistan will release Indian spy Surjeet Singh next week. Surjeet Singh, an Indian national, has been kept in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail for over 30 years on charges of spying. He completed his term in 2004. Sherry tweeted to Indian journalists on Saturday that the new relationships between Pakistan and India would be strengthened and boosted after Singh’s release. She said that Surjeet Singh would be handed over to India in the next week after his release from the jail. Separately, while speaking to a delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), she underscored the need for a more vibrant role for the private sector in showcasing Pakistan as an attractive destination for foreign investors. The delegation called on the ambassador at the Pakistani Embassy on Friday. She was briefed on the meetings held by the delegation in Washington to advocate preferential market access for Pakistani products. The KCCI’s outreach programme within the Asian region, particularly the effort to set up joint chambers in Afghanistan and India, was also discussed.
