ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) will indict former law minister Senator Babar Awan in contempt of court case today (Monday).
SC had taken the notice of former law minister’s press conference on Memogate scandal that ridiculed the apex court’s orders. A three-member bench of apex court comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan and Justice Athar Saeed would hear the case against Babar Awan. Supreme Court in its verdict had declared that the press conference of December 31 came under the contempt of court. The court will indict Awan and after that formal trial of the case would be initiated. On the last hearing on March 20, Babar Awan prayed the court to adjourn the hearing as his counsel is engaged in Lahore stating that his counsel is leaving for India with the delegation of Supreme Court Bar Association. The two-member bench adjourned the hearing of the case till the April 02 and decided to charge sheet Babar Awan on the same date. It is worth mentioning here that after the hearing on March 01, SC reserved its verdict and announced it on March 09. |
