ISLAMABAD: The three-member judicial commission formed to probe memo controversy has resumed the hearing at Islamabad High Court (IHC) today, Geo News reported.
The commission head Justice Faiz Esa asked Husain Haqqanis counsel Zahid Bukhari about his absence even when he was summoned by the commission. Bukhari told the commission that his client has already filed a relief application in the Supreme Court against the commissions order. He further told that Haqqani is currently in the US and had requested to record his statement via video link. The commission, headed by Justice Faiz Esa, is already done with the cross-questioning from the main character, Mansoor Ijaz. The commission last Sunday declined the request of former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani to be available for cross-examination via video link and directed him to come to Islamabad today. Husain Haqqani has already submitted a written statement consisting of 82 pages. On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik has also reached the court to appear before the commission. He has appeared before the Memo Commission to put forth his views about his alleged role in the memogate scandal. Malik had requested the Supreme Court to allow him to become a party before the commission after Mansoor Ijaz had alleged that he had arranged a meeting between Malik and then-chief of Indian intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) at the behest of US government. The JKLF leader had filed a petition through his Srinagar based Counsel, Zafar Ahmed Shah to allow him to clarify his stand about his alleged role in the memogate scandal. |
