ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed said that he has decided to quit the post and has sent his resignation to the Chief Election Commissioner on Thursday.

While talking to the reporters outside the Supreme Court (SC) building, he said ‘extension in his contract was a burden and to get myself relieve of this I have submitted my resignation.’

About Waheeda Shah incident he said the government provide security at every polling station and the presiding officers are empowered with Magistrates' powers.

The Chief Election Commissioner issued orders to register an FIR. A three-month punishment could be given in such incidents after a summary trial.

The police department has failed to provide security to the officials of Election Commission. Summary trial is scheduled on Saturday (tomorrow) at provincial election office.
