Default Senate body seeks action on missing persons issue
QUETTA: The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights has urged the Parliament and the judiciary to play their role to resolve the missing persons issue.

The committee met with Senator Afrasiab Khatak in chair here on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Senators Surayya Amiruddin, Farhat Abbas and Hafiz Rashid Ahmed, Home Secretary Balochistan Nasibullah Bazai, Inspector General Prisons Balochistan Noor Ahmed Parkani, Regional Director Ministry of Human Rights Saeed Ahmed Khan, Farkahnad Aurangzeb of Ministry of Human Rights, Hanif Panezi of SPARC and others.

At a press briefing, Afrasiab Khatak emphasized the need that the Parliament and the judiciary would have to play their role to resolve the missing persons issue of Balochistan.

He said it was observed that human rights violations were being reported in Balochistan. He wondered why law and order situation was not being improved in the province while the provincial autonomy had been given after the passage of 18th Amendment into the Constitution.

He said that they would take up the issue with the government to implement recommendations of the judicial commission set up on the Kharotabad incident.

He said,"We have to release political prisoners besides initiating dialogues with anger Baloch youth to bring peace in Balochistan."

Earlier, in the meeting, he held the Afghan policy pursued by former ruler Gen. Ziaul Haq responsible for the current law and order situation in the country. (APP)
