Default Mush declared proclaimed offender
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Rawalpindi Number 3 Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan on Monday pronounced former military dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf as Proclaimed Offender (PO) in PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case.
The court adjourned hearing of the BB murder case till June 11. The judge also ordered Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to publish advertisement against PO Pervez Musharraf in the newspapers of United Kingdom (UK). While proceeding with the case at Adyala Jail, ATC Judge Rana Nisar declared former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf as PO when FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar presented agency’s compliance report related to non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused, issued by the court.
In the report, it was stated that the British authorities had declined to execute the non-bailable arrest warrants of Musharraf. The prosecutor informed the court that no progress had been made on the arrest warrants of Musharraf so far.
FIA also produced documents and a CD of the statements of then President Pervez Musharraf in which he had refused to appear before the court. The court was informed that Pakistan and UK did not enjoy any treaty for exchange of criminals; therefore, the court should declare Musharraf as PO.
ATC Judge Rana Nisar, after completion of the arguments of prosecution declared Musharraf as PO and ordered FIA to float an advertisement in UK newspapers against the accused. After that, the court postponed the proceedings of the case till June 11.
