Records and valuables worth million of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire erupted in a store and record rooms of Nawa-i-Waqt building early on Saturday.
The fire broke out at about 9:20 am in the rooms. According to a staffer, huge flames covered both the rooms while the fireball also stopped the entry/exit points for rescuers. He, however, said that minutes after the incident took place, fire fighters of Fire Brigade, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and Edhi Foundation reached the spot and engaged in extinguishing the fire. Lahore District Coordination Officer Ahed Khan Cheema, Town Municipal Officer Ali Abbas and other officers also approached the site and supervised the operation. “In fact, the exit/entry points were blocked which forced us to break a wall otherwise the entire building might damaged,” a fire fighter said. He added the reason of fire eruption could not be ascertained. It may be short-circuiting or else. According to initial reports, valuables and records worth million of rupees were reduced to ashes while the total loss would be ascertained later. |
