Politico: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0511/55877.html
Rep. Anthony Weiner says social networking identity hacking is to blame for the lewd material that a conservative news website reported was sent from his Twitter and yfrog handles to an unidentified woman from Seattle, Washington. The New York Democrat told POLITICO he thought it “obvious” that his account had been taken over, and he tweeted that his Facebook account had been hacked with the abbreviation “FB hacked.” A photo of a man’s bulging gray boxer-brief underwear was posted to Weiner’s account with yfrog — an online image-sharing site — on Saturday night, according to biggovernment.com, which is run by Andrew Breitbart. The photograph is from the waist down, and shows no face. “The weiner gags never get old, I guess, ” the veteran lawmaker emailed a POLITICO reporter in response on Saturday. |

If Weiner was hacked he will report it to the authorities. It is a Federal Crime (impersonating a Federal Official among other things) and the FBI will catch and prosecute the hacker.
If he reports it and fully cooperates with the authorities in finding the hacker I will believe him, because of the penalties of making false claims to the FBI. Otherwise.......... |

Even Richard's revered Talking Points Memo seems in doubt about Weiner's veracity.

I follow Rep. Weiner and was on Twitter the night that happened. I read his tweets about getting hacked. He was joking about it. I had no clue what the hacker posted until the next day. Then all of sudden here's Breitbart jumping on CNN talking about "young girls" blah blah. What an idiot. As if that guy has any credibility left. And what the hell is CNN doing giving the jerk a platform?

LOL
![]() I can't wait until the SNL skits on this one! First off, he's a Democrat and we all know there's a double-standard on how Democrat sex scandals are handled as opposed to Republican sex scandals. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011...twitter-photo/ Rep. Anthony Weiner Struggles to Explain Origin of Lewd Twitter Photo Published June 02, 2011 | FoxNews.com Rep. Anthony Weiner struggled to explain how a picture of somebody's bulging underwear briefly appeared on his Twitter account, claiming in a back-to-back string of interviews that he was clearly hacked -- but hinting the photograph could have been an image of him. "I have photographs. I don't know what photographs are out there in the world of me," he said in one cable news interview, asked whether he'd ever snapped a photo like that of himself. In another interview, Weiner acknowledged "it could be" the case that one of his private photos spilled onto the Internet. Or, he said, one could have been manipulated or pulled in from "somewhere else." Talking briefly to reporters outside his office Thursday morning, the congressman made clear he was not interested in sitting down for more questions. "I made it very clear I did not send that picture, that my Twitter account had been hacked, and the prank apparently has been successful. But after hours, almost 11 hours of answering questions ... today, I'm going to have to get back to work," Weiner said. |

I don't know which mod you're talking about Paul, but if it's not me, then make it two people who believe Wiener.
Who is everybody? I know Donald Trump's one person... Oh,yeah, there's accountability. Breirart? Heck, he jumped on it so fast, I wouldn't be surprised if he orchestrated the situation. We know he's not above altering evidence to fake a point. Last time, he pushed the evidence so quickly, it ended up costing someone her job for no reason. I'm already curious to see what happens when the dust settles this time. Wiener has become an anti-GOP darling with great talks on the floor, showing it's okay to be a Democrat, angry and yet sensical. He's a rising star for the Democrats, who doesn't pull punches. The GOP can't phase him with politics, so this is the best thing they can come up with? |

This case illustrates the double-standard in the U.S. concerning how sex scandals are handled for Democrats vs. Republicans. A Republican would either have resigned or been forced out by now. Weiner (how appropriate is that name? LOL) just keeps waffling back and forth, never admitting to anything but not denying anything either. He's clearly guilty. It's obvious by his actions. An innocent man would adamantly deny everything and stake his reputation on it. This knuckle head just blames it on some mysterious "hackers". Says that the picture "kinda looks like him", "could be him", "not sure if it's him, but maybe it is"...and so on. What an idiot.

The fact that Regis insists on posting jokes about Rep. Weiner's name underscores the reason there are some, perhaps even many, people believe him. To be honest, I haven't paid that much attention to it since the story first broke, due to a family situation that has preoccupied much of my time, so I haven't really formed an opinion, but I do think it's possible either way.

ABC News: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/rep-a...ry?id=13774605
Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York said today he has engaged in "several inappropriate" electronic relationships with six women over three years, and that he publicly lied about a photo of himself sent over Twitter to a college student in Seattle over a week ago. "I take full responsibility for my actions," Weiner said. "The picture was of me, and I sent it." The announcement came as ABC News prepared to release an interview with Meagan Broussard, a 26-year-old single mother from Texas who provided dozens of photos, emails, Facebook messages and cell phone call logs that she says chronicle a sexually-charged electronic relationship with Weiner that rapidly-evolved for more than a month, starting on April 20, 2011. ABC News reached out to Weiner earlier today for comment about his possible ties to Broussard, but he did not respond to requests for an interview. At a press conference later, Weiner confirmed Broussard was one of the women with whom he sexted. |

The exasperation falls into two camps:
1) There's a level of behavioral standards that comes with the office as well as with being in a committed relationship. 2) If you can't get a handle on #1 for the moment, at least be smart enough not to use your official email/Twitter account/phone while getting your personal demons under control. The problem with treating people like rock stars is that eventually, they'll begin to believe it and actually start acting like rock stars. |

Several opinions on this.
1. Hell no, this hurts the Dems politically thus helping Conservatives. Dem leadership will probably ask him to step down. 2. Yes, his effectiveness will be greatly reduced, everyone will have a "troubling" picture in their minds every times he speaks. 3. Yes, IMO he needs help and probably should take the time getting it. 4. Yes as there are probably many young woman working in various capacities at the Capitol who would probably feel very uncomfortable intereracting with the Congressman. I think for this reason at the very least Paul Ryan will take steps to, quietly remove him from the Budget committee. I don't think Dem leadership wants to have that fight. |
