Default Boehner Asks Obama To Reschedule Jobs Speech
Par for the course, obstruct, obstruct obstruct. Nothing says I care like NO. He does not do this to Bush, no way no how. Maybe he is doing the limbo with his approval ratings... How low can you go?

Just hours after President Obama scheduled his big jobs speech at the same time as the first GOP presidential debate featuring Texas Gov. Rick Perry, House Speaker John Boehner is asking that the President delay the speech by a day.

The format the White House requested for the address on September 7 was a big all-whistles-and-bells joint session of Congress. Boehner fired back in a very polite but pointed letter that made no mention of the GOP debate, but asked Obama to delay it until September 8, citing a different source of concern, namely that Congress won't have time to formally approve the joint resolution of both houses extending the invite for Obama to make the address.

[T]he House will not be in session until Wednesday, September 7, with votes at 6:30 that evening. With the significant amount of time - typically more than three hours - that is required to allow for a security sweep of the House Chamber before receiving a President, it is my recommendation that your address be held the following evening, when we can ensure there will be no parliamentary or logistical impediments that might detract from your remarks. This would be my reply:
"Speaker Boehner,

I appreciate your concern for tradition and parliamentary procedure, however given the serious jobs crisis our nation now faces, I am perfectly willing to set aside the formal aspects of a Congressional invite.

See you next Wednesday.

Sincerely,
The President"

September 8th is the 45th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek, which could well be an international holiday. So I say, in the words of then-Captain Spock, "if I were human, I believe my response would be 'go to Hell.'"

LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics...,6418040.story

The White House acceded to House Speaker John A. Boehner's request that President Obama address a joint session of Congress next Thursday, ending a brief scheduling skirmish that presages a larger policy fight over boosting job creation.

In a statement Wednesday evening, White House spokesmanJay Carney said Obama "is focused on the urgent need to create jobs and grow our economy, so he welcomes the opportunity to address a joint session of Congress" on Sept. 8.

Obama initially requested to make the speech on Sept. 7, at a time when the Republican presidential hopefuls were scheduled to debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. The White House said the timing was coincidental; by then, both chambers were to be back in session after the August recess. GOP leaders were suspicious.

Mine would be closer to Worf's "If you were any other man, I would kill you where you stand."

What a pompus a$$ the President is proving himself to be, again. What kind of super special moron thinks the President can just show up at Congress and speak? Anybody with even a shred of integrity would ask if it was all right, but this President doesn''t even know the meaning of the word integrity. If it is so important to give the speech on Wednesday then give it from the oval office. What a moron.

And Boehner is a hypocrite, because they could easily have pushed through a resolution to invite the President to speak, IF the issue were important enough to the leadership.

More likely, Boehner didn't want the address to conflict with the Republican debate.

The White house spoke to Bohner's ooffice BEFORE issuing the letter and did not get any word that there was a problem, I think that would have been the time to raise objections, but they waited to embarrass the President . Typical Republican politics.
