OK, Time for the Republicans to show their true intentions, I am sure there is a bit of squirming going on in GOP land. Go get the Popcorn, this should be fun to watch.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_854468.html WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced on Wednesday that he would host a vote on Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget as a means of forcing moderate GOP senators to weigh in on the legislation’s controversial proposals. He did not provide a specific date for when that vote will take place. “There will be an opportunity in the Senate to vote on the Ryan budget to see if Republican senators like the Ryan budget as much as the House did,” Reid said on a conference call with reporters. “Without going into the Ryan budget we will see how much the Republicans like it here in the Senate.” |

Thanks for this, I was just looking for one to post. Brilliant move on Reid's part. As TPM points out, it goes either of two ways: Either GOP Senators link arms and jump into the political suicide abyss together or they kick their supposed unified front to the curb and reveal that there are deep divisions in the party.
Senators are not nearly as beholden to Tea Party forces at their brethren in the House. Where House members are more focused on voicing positions that will play well in their own district, Senators need to represent the full state. House members can get away with posturing, but Senators really have to govern. I'd be surprised if more GOP Senators don't join Susan Collins and oppose the Ryan budget. It'll be a real test of Mitch McConnell's rallying skills to see if he can keep any more Senators from jumping ship. |

Has a vote date been set? I may need to make a date with C-SPAN for this one. A spokesman for McConnell told The Huffington Post that the vote on Obama’s budget -- which includes across broad cuts to government programs that would reduce the deficit by an estimated $1.1 trillion -- would come on the same day Reid schedules his vote. |
