I don't think there's been a time in our history where we've had a media more in bed with an adminstration...
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2665709/posts As Egypt Burns, Obama and News Media Party Hearty Saturday Night Sunday, January 30, 2011 | Kristinn Posted on 01/30/2011 7:42:11 AM PST by kristinn As thirty years of United States Middle East strategy teeters on collapse, Barack Obama spent Saturday night at a going away party for David Axelrod who is leaving the administration to set up Obama's reelection campaign in Chicago. The party was held at the Dupont Circle condo of former Obama aide Linda Douglass. Douglass, who is now with the National Journal, played host to a gathering of cabinet secretaries including Arne Duncan (Education), Timothy Geithner (Treasury) and Steven Chu (Energy) and prominent reporters including Major Garrett (National Journal), Jake Tapper (ABC), Chuck Todd (NBC) and John Harwood (CNBC/New York Times). Obama spent nearly two hours at the party. Greta Van Sustern appears to be the only one in the media to report on Obama's party with her colleagues. Were it not for her posting the pool reports by the National Journal's Rebecca Kaplan at Fox News' GretaWire, the public would not know that Obama spent Saturday night partying with the media while Egypt burns. |

I wonder if he kept a full meeting schedule or ate at regular mealtimes on Friday. By the looks of reaction at the far-right FreeRepublic board (home of the occasional racially-charged attacks on Michelle Obama and the Obama children), we should probably shut down government offices, schools and banks until this Egypt thing is resolved. Heck, if the president is taking time to read to his girls before bed or help them with their homework, something's terribly wrong with the priorities of this country, right?

If there's going to be an attempt to prove Obama is as bad as Bush about neglecting his duties, those who feel so need to come up with legitimate ideas. This isn't one. A natural disaster is something where we have the obligation to help any nation or people that need it. We have no jurisdiction in Egypt, no false enemy to attack and I don't believe we have an invitation from either side to get involved. Maybe one side or both will ask for assistance when they resolve things on their own. Then perhaps Obama will have reason to take action besides observation and making statements.
Otherwise this is am apples to oranges poor excuse from a media site to bash the president over nothing. As Richard points out, the site's readers are making illogical suggestions about what our plan should be. |
