You seem to be forgetting that many Democrats and liberals actually read and know that the word "Party" is not a reference to a political party but to a historic event. Replace the phrase "Tea Party" with "County Fair" and you get a better visual of how this works with this year's Fox News-supported bandwagon. There's no national County Fair, just a lot of little local ones who all run things their own way.
