Default TIME Poll: 24% of Americans mistakenly say Obama is a Muslim
Hmmmm...says Americans don't like Muslims very much. Wonder why???

http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...011799,00.html

Yet the survey also revealed that many Americans harbor lingering animosity toward Muslims. Twenty-eight percent of voters do not believe Muslims should be eligible to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Nearly one-third of the country thinks adherents of Islam should be barred from running for President — a slightly higher percentage than the 24% who mistakenly believe the current occupant of the Oval Office is himself a Muslim. In all, just 47% of respondents believe Obama is a Christian; 24% declined to respond to the question or said they were unsure, and 5% believe he is neither Christian nor Muslim.

While the poll revealed that prejudice toward Muslims is widespread, respect for other religious traditions remains sturdy.

Sad, and scary, that nearly a quarter of our population is that stupid.

Sadder, and scarier, that so many are willing to trash the Constitution.

A similar Pew poll is careful to note that most people who mistakenly believe Obama is a Muslim are conservative Republicans. That's a particular strain of stupid there, and I'm guessing that's the same population that is so eager to insert racial bias into the Constitution.

What is up with this certain strain of Republicans? Judging by Regis, I'm guessing they don't get out much or actually listen to people who aren't just like them. I'll bet if you polled this group and asked what media they listened to, you'd get the same percentage listening to Rush, Glenn and those fools.

Oh well, as Forrest Gump so aptly put it, "Stupid is as stupid does."

And, as my husband says, "You can't fix stupid."

I don't really care what President Obama's religion is since it shouldn't dictate who he is or how he runs this country.

I think it's exactly as I called it in the thread "The war between older white voters and nonwhite younger voters." That is, the shrinking base of older, white voters is in freak-out mode that America is so quickly becoming a white-minority nation. And these are some of the many ugly attempts to try and force that genie back into the bottle. Coincidentally, recent demographics info shows that Fox News, the primary echo chamber for the "hey white people, the brown people are coming for you and your money" message, draws the oldest audience on cable TV with an average viewer age of 65.

And for anyone not inside that shrinking enclave of scared, older white voters, the aftermath of these efforts is clear: Latino voters, who were never really a core part of the GOP base, are leaving the Republican party after being demonized; Muslim voters are leaving the Republican party after being demonized and the small number of black voters and politicians in the GOP are beginning to take issue with the rubber stamp that GOP leaders give to race-baiting stunts foisted by the likes of Andrew Breitbart, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. And I'd guess that plenty of those black GOP voters are about to leave as well, if they haven't already.
