Me and my heavies: Michelle Obama goes walkabout in Marbella after 'racist' Spaniards gaff

Michelle and Sasha arrive in Spain for four-day summer visit

Barack Obama celebrates 49th birthday home alone in U.S.

The Obama administration faced an embarrassing diplomatic blunder today after it was forced to pull a warning about racism in Spain - just as the First Lady arrived in the country for a summer holiday.

Soon after touching down in the Costa del Sol yesterday morning, Michelle Obama was pictured taking in the sights of Marbella with daughter Sasha, nine, surrounded by a throng of bodyguards.

Staff at the U.S. State Department removed the contentious advice to travellers, which included the phrase 'racist prejudices could lead to the arrest of Afro-Americans who travel to Spain,' from its website on Monday.

Actually, the report was this:

“We have received isolated reports that racial prejudice may have contributed to the arrest or detention of some African-Americans travelling in Spain. Recently, two African-American U.S. Government employees were questioned by police in Barcelona for no apparent reason. One was detained and suffered physical injuries in the process,” the report said before the language was removed. The state department updates these warnings every six months, and since this was originally posted in 2009 and no similar incidents occurred since the initial posting, it should have been removed at the next six-month update. So it was removed because it was out of date, not because of any diplomatic pressure. If the incident had occurred in the past six months, it would still be up as a matter of policy.

And Regis would still have posted this, as a matter of his policy.
