Race Played Role in Obama Car Dealer Closures

By William Tate

The Obama administration, already under fire for unprecedented allegations of racial bias, faces a new bias claim from a most unlikely source: one of the administration's own inspectors general.

Decisions on which car dealerships to close as part of the auto industry bailout -- closures the Obama administration forced on General Motors and Chrysler -- were based in part on race and gender, according to a report by Troubled Asset Relief Program Special Inspector General Neal M. Barofsky.

[D]ealerships were retained because they were recently appointed, were key wholesale parts dealers, or were minority- or woman-owned dealerships. [Emphasis added.]

Thus, to meet numbers forced on them by the Obama administration, General Motors and Chrysler were forced to shutter other, potentially more viable, dealerships. The livelihood of potentially tens of thousands of families was thus eliminated simply because their dealerships were not minority- or woman-owned.

As has been widely reported, the Inspector General's study skewered the Obama Gang for strong-arming the companies into closing 2,000 dealerships, costing an estimated 100,000 people their jobs during a recession.

I just read the entire report this article is based upon. Not surprisingly, this conservative rag, The American Thinker, is just flatout lying. GM set the criteria for closing down its dealerships, not the advisors working for the Treasury. Just another attempt by the right to stir up its conservative readers by throwing the racism bomb out there.

And again, not surprisingly, Brad is just the mouthpiece of the dungheap media who perpetuate this crap.

It's almost too bad the African American conspiracy alluded to by Fox and highlighted in Rachel's piece in Richard's post isn't real. I'd love to see Brad cowering as the takeover took place.

I'm picturing "Animal House:" "Mind if we dance with your dates?" And Brad sneaking out of the bar.

Did or did not the report say the following Other dealerships were retained because they were recently appointed, were key wholesale parts dealers, or were minority- or woman-owned dealerships on page 17 of the document (page 22 of the .pdf). It is clear that if there is someone who is flatout lying it is not the American Thinker. Perhaps it is the person who claimed to have read the entire report but some how missed the quoted sentence? Just Asking?

BTW-- The Feds control(led) 61 percent of GM so the Administration controls GM and is responsible for the descions GM makes.

When will the Libs stop supporting racist policies. The first step is admitting their own racism.

I did read the report, Paul. So did you if you pulled out that quote of page 17. Nowhere does it state that anyone in the Administration made that decision; in fact, it state quite plainly that it was a GM policy. I stand by my statement.

The Administration is GM, the Treasury Department, which last time I looked was part of the Administration, owns over 60 percent of GM. This is called a controlling interest. This is not terribly difficult to understand. The administration is responsible for every single action that GM takes.

No, they were not. Pres. Obama made it very clear from the outset that the auto companies had to meet certain fiscal responsibilities. He left the rest of it up to the auto companies. Don't try and rewrite history to fit some kind of twisted political agenda, Paul.

And while you're at it, DES, tell a fish not to swim.
