Default Who lurks on this board? - Now with poll!
You may have noticed (or maybe this only bothers me, but whatever) that all of the threads here have far more views than posts. Not nearly as many as the old LD, so I'm guessing we lost quite a few people in the shift, but still, far more views than posts.

This leads me to conclude that many of you are lurking! Why? I realize that some lurkers may not have accounts here, but those that do please tell me why! What would get you to post more?

30 plus views, and one poll response? Come on...

MSNBot Spiders, Google Spiders, Yahoo! Slurp Spiders, Google AdSense Spiders ...just to name a few, will strike within minutes sometimes even seconds after each new post. I wonder if they register as views here?

You know, that never even occurred to me. I wonder if they do register as views? But still, I know there had to be lurkers on the old LD; there would be threads with hundreds of views, and less than ten responses. That would be a hell of a lot of spiders. I would think some lurkers would follow us to the new board. But you have a point.

Also, what do the little stars on the thread mean? Pretty sure that wasn't there before. I've seen it on other threads, but what is it? lol

I was wondering about this too and I was just about ready to post a thread about this as I have seen these appear quite frequenty after I have posted something - thought it was just seen on my computer only (maybe to let me know which threads I have posted in?) as nobody had yet said anything until now. But now that I know that others are seeing them too my curiosity has really piqued!

Apparently the stars are a thread rating! I just searched the FAQ. lol

What are ratings?

The forums allow you to rate threads between 1 star (terrible) and 5 stars (excellent). Once enough votes are cast for a thread, stars will appear next to its name in the listings. These show the average vote, and can be an easy way to see which threads are worth reading if you are on a busy forum.

On the forum viewing page you can also arrange threads by rating, with either the highest or lowest at the top.

It therefore makes sense to rate threads because it helps all users. To do this, click on the 'rate thread' link at the top of the thread viewing page. Choose the number of stars you feel best represents the quality of the thread. You may or may not be able to change your choice of rating at a later date.

So, if it takes multiple votes from different users before these stars can appear and they all seem to be appearing almost instantaneously after I have posted a comment in the reply areas of various threads, then my profile must be on some kind of RSS feed to a bunch of unknown 'Lurkers' whom I have no idea who these people are, and they have all decided to post 5 star votes just as soon as my posts reach the RSS feeds... Now I am truly, TRULY, mystified!!!

Will these lurkers please step forward and make yourselves known, please??? lol

I played around with it, and I'm pretty sure it only requires one vote to show a rating. lol Chances are you have one very dedicated stalker. Consider yourself honored? lol
